Places to Visit
Certosa di Pavia
Just a few kilometers from the city center, the Certosa is one of the masterpieces of the Lombard Renaissance. Commissioned by Gian Galeazzo Visconti between the 14th and 15th centuries, it blends Gothic grace with Renaissance brilliance in a monastic complex of rare beauty.
Admission is free; however, visitors are encouraged to collect a ticket on-site to join the guided tours conducted by the resident monks.

The spiritual heart of Pavia, this is one of the most remarkable Romanesque churches in northern Italy. Several Lombard kings were crowned here, and its atmosphere still breathes centuries of history.
Entrance is free; guided tours can be arranged directly at the basilica’s information point.
Pavia Cathedral (Duomo di Pavia)
Majestic and filled with light, the cathedral boasts one of the largest domes in Italy. Its construction began in the 15th century and saw the contribution of both Leonardo da Vinci and Bramante.
Access to the main church is free, while some internal museum areas require a small admission fee.
Visconti Castle and Civic Museum
Built in 1360 as the residence of the Visconti dukes, this noble fortress now houses the Civic Museum, featuring art collections, archaeological treasures, and temporary exhibitions.
Tickets can be purchased at the entrance or online via the official website of the Municipality of Pavia.

Local Cuisine & Fine Dining
Pavia’s gastronomy unites the simplicity of rural tradition with the rich flavors of Lombardy.
Among the specialties not to be missed:
Certosina Risotto, with river fish and garden vegetables
Fegato alla Pavese, traditional liver with herbs and wine
Zuppa Pavese, a medieval recipe of eggs, broth, and bread
Local cured meats, such as coppa and Varzi salami, best enjoyed with wines from the Oltrepò Pavese hills
For those wishing to savor tradition in refined surroundings, we recommend:
Osteria della Madonna – In the heart of the old town, offering authentic flavors in an elegant setting.
Trattoria Ressi – A historic venue where traditional dishes and local wines meet a welcoming, timeless atmosphere.
Both establishments accept online and phone reservations and provide reserved parking for private chauffeurs.
